Older, but young at heart!

JUNE 22-23, 2024 | Albion Hills Conservation Park

Mountain biking is often considered a young person’s sport, but in fact it’s still for everyone. Did you know mountain biking is more popular for people in their 30s and 40s and 50s, than for people in their 20s. The average participant age at our event is around 38. Now for many of you that sounds young, but remember we have lots of mountain bikers still doing our events in their 60s and 70s.

Riding with my father, Tom Ruppel, I’m reminded that there are lots of people who defy their age. Still mountain biking, and very quickly, and celebrating his 77th birthday in May. I still ride with him quite regularly, and we’re not talking about leisurely paced rides. While some people are old in their 40s or 50s that’s not the path Tom Ruppel has chosen.

Mountain biking is fun, keeps you active and it’s also a social sport. You should stay riding a bicycle, not a golf cart!
